In memory of Mr Gibbs
Mr Gibbs was an incredible rat, a best friend, a heart rat.
Gibbs came into my life in 2018 when he was just 8 weeks of age. He stole my heart immediately. He was such a busy, cheeky boy, but still found time to snuggle with me!
He arrived with a friend, Captain Jack Sparrow. He sadly passed away at 8 months old after not waking up from an anaesthetic. I took his paw prints to keep as a memorial. Not long after losing him, I came across miniature canvases...the rats could paint those, accompanied by a professional photo of them with their art in my studio, that would be a fun thing to do, and keep as a memorial once they had gone. And so, the painting begun.
Gibbs was the first of my rats to try the painting, followed by his friends at the time, Terrance and Timmy. So really, whilst Captain Jack sparked an idea, Gibbs started Tiny Paws.
Gibbs was an incredible boy. He looked out for everyone, myself included. The love I gave him was given right back to me. He was the most affectionate, gentle boy I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Losing him really had a huge impact on myself, and the rat cage.
Back in May, a post of him with his proud, cheeky little face next to his art went viral. This is what made Toogoods Tiny Paws what it is today.
After Gibbs went viral, there was a huge demand for Gibbs and his friends artwork - so much that I couldn't fulfil the demand. I couldn't believe what was happening. Suddenly, so many people were loving what I did. People were loving the boys, their quirky art, and my photography.
Another thing people loved? Gibbs' unique little trademark...his missing toe! Gibbs was born with a toe missing, and it has made him so very unique.
Gibbs was seen and loved by thousands of people all over the world and everyone enjoyed seeing his updates. Nothing made me happier than seeing how much he was loved.
Gibbs was an incredible boy. He looked out for everyone, myself included. The love I gave him was given right back to me. His beautiful bright eyes and happy, smiley face touched the hearts of so many. He was the most affectionate, gentle boy I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
For such a small creature, he achieved so much with me. I owe so much to this little rat, he truly was a star and is the reason my business is what it is.
Mr Gibbs will live on in tiny paws, always. He lives on through his art prints, merchandise, and most importantly, his rat relatives I have the pleasure of owning.
Prints of Gibbs' first, middle and final canvases are still available to purchase, along with other merchandise. You can view Gibbs' product line here
